Web OS 2.0 Is Coming Later This Year

July 24th 2010 | Posted by Deepak

Jon Rubinstein from Palm(HP) mentioned in the interview with Fortune that “WebOS 2.0 is on track for release later this year”. As we have been hearing rumours about HP bringing some webOS based tablets into market to compete with iPad, webOS 2.0 release seem to be a perfect fit for that. But we still have to wait for any details on what webOS 2.0 will look like. Will update as soon as it comes out.

WebOs Update Coming Soon

May 3rd 2010 | Posted by Deepak

After the acquisition by HP, Palm came up with their first big announcement. Palm is informing its developers that a major webOS update is coming soon and they should be ready to test their Apps with the new OS. Pretty welcome news after months of not so “happening” months over webOs. Yes we can expect decent amount of changes and upgrades :) . Check out the mail being sent to developers below.

webOS™ Update Coming Soon – Prepare to Test Your Apps

The next version of webOS is coming soon.

You will receive an email alert in early May announcing the availability of an SDK release candidate. Please be prepared to begin testing your apps right away.

Because the scope of the changes in this update is limited, we won’t be going through a full SDK beta cycle:

* You will have approximately one week to report show-stopper bugs in webOS before it is released to carriers.
* Once the build has been released to carriers, you will have another 2-3 weeks to address app-level bugs before the update lands on consumer devices.

It is especially important to test PDK apps against this release candidate. Developers of non-PDK apps should also test their apps to catch any unanticipated issues.

HP To Acquire Palm

April 29th 2010 | Posted by Deepak

Palm was allegedly up for sale for quite a time now and after rumours of HTC buying Palm got down, HP came out as a new owner. HP released a press release today stating that it be acquiring Palm for $1.2 Billion. So, what does this means to customers, well they can always treat this as pretty good news.

Palm was struggling with its financial state for long and was not able to succeed much with the release of WebOS mobiles like Palm Pre and Pixi. Both are great devices with equally amazing OS bundled with them but their sales were not high enough to bring Palm out of their misery. Anyways now as WebOs is having a new owner with decent bank account, we will surely be treated with new WebOS devices like phones and tablets. Yes you heard it right guys, there is very well a possibility of HP coming out with a WebOS tablet in future. Soon with the release of HP Tablet they will be having a decent new age tablet experience to come out with a impressive WebOs tablet. So, hold tight, we will surely up for a great ride :) .

Super Prekernel Is Here – Time To Make Palm Per A Speed Demon

April 22nd 2010 | Posted by Deepak

Finally super prekernel is here which helps you to make increase the stock frequency of Palm Pre from 500Mhz upto 800Mhz. Following is the description of the what the kernel is all about :

With a single click of an install button, Super Prekernel app allows the user to replace CDMA-GSM Palm Pre or Palm Pre Plus stock frequency of 500 MHz to 550 or 600MHz choices using a modified LunaSysMgr patch. Remarkably within the same app, replacement of the existing WebOS1.4 kernel with higher frequency choices of 720 or 800 MHz Kernel mod is also possible through a single click install process. Only one frequency for obvious reasons is allowed at one time by the app. A simple 500 MHz Stock Pre is transformed faster than a speeding cpu to Super Pre Kernel! For those who don’t enjoy travelling faster than a certain speeding cpu frequency, the kernel mods and patches may again be transformed back to stock frequency through a single click uninstall process.
