Quake And Doom Comes To Palm Pre : More Awesome Games Coming Soon

Gaming scene on Palm Pre took its little time to take off but now things are getting changed very fast as both Quake and hardware accelerated has been ported on Palm Pre. And they look pretty good, it also proves the fact that developers are indeed taking interest in Palm Pre game development and we can very well expect some very good games coming its way.

Please note that both are homebrewed apps and are not available in the official app store.

Video Recording On Palm Pre Possible : App Details And Video Sample

Precorder is a Palm Pre app homebrew Pre community. Its in alpha stage but does the job well if you want to record a video on Palm Pre.

Video streams are available in Mpeg-4, H.263, H.264/AVC and for audio you have the options from AAC, AMRNB, MP3. The video containers are either mp4 or 3GP.

In all its a pretty handy Free video recording app for Palm Pre and you can have fun with it. More updates should be coming on the app in later time. For downloading/installing the app, check out it official webpage.

Skype Will Take Little Time To Come To Palm Pre

Well its looks like Palm Pre owners have to wait a little while before they get their hands on Skype app for them.

Tech blog Gigaom reports that they contacted Skype about the Skype app for Palm Pre and they got the following as their reply :

“We are focused on delivering the best Skype experience for mobile consumers that we can, across any cell phone or mobile operating system. If someone has a cell phone, we want them to be able to use Skype on it. That’s our vision and we’ve already delivered new mobile applications for Windows Mobile, Java-enabled cell phones, Android-powered devices and the iPhone in the first half of 2009. As things are evolving quickly in this space, we will continue to keep our eye on Palm’s Pre and webOS platform, which seems to be getting good traction in its first weekend. But we have nothing to announce at this time.”

I think as Palm Pre popularity grows, more companies will jump into the webOS bandwagon as well with their coveted apps. It will take some time though but yes Palm Pre will get some amazing apps like on iPhone which change the webOS experience forever as webOS is not as restrictive as iPhone OS.

As I told before Palm Pre hacking is order of the day and users are finding new/great stuff everyday. Now is the turn of all time classic doom game to run on Palm Pre.

Here is the step by step procedure if you want to do the same on your Palm Pre. Its all pretty technical stuff and if you are not into this, just leave it on Palm to come up with some official gaming apps for Palm Pre .

Soon after the release of Palm Pre, Palm released a software update for its web0S firmware. The updates is about 67 mb and can be downloaded on Sprint EVDO Rev.A network.

The firmware included a new clock app and few addition features. Below is the complete list of additions :

New applications
Clock

Use your phone as an alarm clock.
Create and save multiple alarms.
Customize sounds for individual alarms.
View a full-screen time display.
Switch the time display between analog and digital.

Feature changes to existing applications

Camera

Increased speed of return to capture mode when taking successive photos.

Other

Numerous bug fixes for Email, Calendar, and other applications.

Palm Pre Built-In Apps : Update App

Palm Pre will be coming out with lots of inbuilt apps once its launched, although we know about few of them but there is no official list of any kind. But as the details keep leaking out, I am doing the round up of all the apps which are confirmed/details leaked.

First one in the list is the Update App, this app will do wonders for your Palm Pre, as usually if you have to update your iPhone it needs to be connected to PC/MAC , but that won’t be the case with Palm Pre, it will be having a inbuilt app, which on launched will check for any official updates and will update Palm Pre accordingly.

Its a pretty good feature of you ask me .
