WebOs Update Coming Soon

After the acquisition by HP, Palm came up with their first big announcement. Palm is informing its developers that a major webOS update is coming soon and they should be ready to test their Apps with the new OS. Pretty welcome news after months of not so “happening” months over webOs. Yes we can expect decent amount of changes and upgrades . Check out the mail being sent to developers below.

webOS™ Update Coming Soon – Prepare to Test Your Apps

The next version of webOS is coming soon.

You will receive an email alert in early May announcing the availability of an SDK release candidate. Please be prepared to begin testing your apps right away.

Because the scope of the changes in this update is limited, we won’t be going through a full SDK beta cycle:

* You will have approximately one week to report show-stopper bugs in webOS before it is released to carriers.
* Once the build has been released to carriers, you will have another 2-3 weeks to address app-level bugs before the update lands on consumer devices.

It is especially important to test PDK apps against this release candidate. Developers of non-PDK apps should also test their apps to catch any unanticipated issues.

Palm Pre Plus And Pixi Plus Coming To Germany On April 28

Palm made announcement that they will be releasing the new Palm pre plus and Pixi plus in Germany with Vodafone & O2. This comes as a surprise amidst the reports of Palm being up for sale and HTC probably will be buying it. But that shouldn’t bother the customers much .

Palm Starts Developer Podacast Series

To attract more developers and spread information about their developer program, Palm has started their developer podcast series. Indeed a very nice step from Palm to get attention towards it webOs platform. They have released the first video of the series.

Palm’s Dion Almaer and Ben Galbraith give an introduction the mobile development landscape, how Palm fits into it, and an overview of the various programs that Palm offers developers.

Palm Pre(webOS) App Catalog Reaching 2000 Apps Count Soon

WebOs app catalog is growing at a steady pace, ofcourse its not as crowded as iPhone app store but it will eventually get there. Palm is doing all it can to attract developers towards its webOs platform. I think they should increase their handset reach and should spread fast into European, Asian countries. More handsets = More App Downloads = More Money For Developers

Palm Pre Coming To China In July – No Word On India Release

Finally Palm Pre is getting set to be launched in Asia. China Telecom will be launching Palm Pre in July 2010 with Blackberry devices. News came from the Wall Street Journal article. Still there is no word on when it will be released in India, which makes no sense because Palm Pre with a decent affordable price tag can do wonders for Palm in India.

iPhone Games Porting To WebOs Becoming To Reality Soon

Since GDC 2010 is approaching fast, rumours have started flying around that Palm will making some big announcements this time. Most exciting is that of them reliving a platform/app which would make it very easy for developers to port their iPhone apps to WebOs platform.

Well if this is true then it can be really be a game changer and would really turn around the tables in the Palm Pre market share. As even after being a great smartphone, Palm Pre is not able to see the apps market get going which is inturn turning away the customers from it.

I really hope this becomes true and Palm Pre owners will soon be having thousands of apps to play around with.

Palm Pre Plus Comes To Life With Verizon

Last CES Palm Pre was launched and there had been talks of new Palm Pre coming this CES. And the rumors were true indeed. Yesterday Palm launched 2 new devices Palm Pre plus and Palm Pixi plus.
New Palm Pre features a improved keyboard, is more snappier and memory storage has been bumped to 16gb.

Adobe : Flash 10.1 Coming To webOS In First Half Of 2010

If you happen to come across the abode’s flash player page while browsing from Palm Pre, you will be greeted with a message saying the Flash 10.1 is coming to webOS in first half of 2010. Hence the 2 Palm devices based on webOS platform, Palm Pre and Palm Pixi will be getting the update.

As it was expected, a unlocking solution for Palm Pre is here. Currently the solution is available in form of hardware using Rebel Simcard II available at the price of £10.99($17.95/around 850 INR). You can learn all about the rebel simcards unlocking solutions from their official website.

GSM Palm Pre Released In Europe : Might End Up Soon In Indian “Grey Markets”

OK so big news first, GSM Palm Pre is out in germany and will be soon launched in all parts of Europe. And I am happy cause this might bring Palm Pre to India, unofficially ofcourse. All you will doing is calling up your cousins,friends families and get one for yourself. Unlock it and use in India. I am going to do the same, once its gets launched in England . And probably grey market guys might also swing into some action and start getting Palm Pre’s into India.
