HP To Acquire Palm

Palm was allegedly up for sale for quite a time now and after rumours of HTC buying Palm got down, HP came out as a new owner. HP released a press release today stating that it be acquiring Palm for $1.2 Billion. So, what does this means to customers, well they can always treat this as pretty good news.

Palm was struggling with its financial state for long and was not able to succeed much with the release of WebOS mobiles like Palm Pre and Pixi. Both are great devices with equally amazing OS bundled with them but their sales were not high enough to bring Palm out of their misery. Anyways now as WebOs is having a new owner with decent bank account, we will surely be treated with new WebOS devices like phones and tablets. Yes you heard it right guys, there is very well a possibility of HP coming out with a WebOS tablet in future. Soon with the release of HP Tablet they will be having a decent new age tablet experience to come out with a impressive WebOs tablet. So, hold tight, we will surely up for a great ride .

PALO ALTO, Calif. & SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–HP (NYSE: HPQ – News) and Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM – News) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which HP will purchase Palm, a provider of smartphones powered by the Palm webOS mobile operating system, at a price of $5.70 per share of Palm common stock in cash or an enterprise value of approximately $1.2 billion. The transaction has been approved by the HP and Palm boards of directors.

The combination of HP’s global scale and financial strength with Palm’s unparalleled webOS platform will enhance HP’s ability to participate more aggressively in the fast-growing, highly profitable smartphone and connected mobile device markets. Palm’s unique webOS will allow HP to take advantage of features such as true multitasking and always up-to-date information sharing across applications.

“Palm’s innovative operating system provides an ideal platform to expand HP’s mobility strategy and create a unique HP experience spanning multiple mobile connected devices,” said Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP. “And, Palm possesses significant IP assets and has a highly skilled team. The smartphone market is large, profitable and rapidly growing, and companies that can provide an integrated device and experience command a higher share. Advances in mobility are offering significant opportunities, and HP intends to be a leader in this market.”

“We’re thrilled by HP’s vote of confidence in Palm’s technological leadership, which delivered Palm webOS and iconic products such as the Palm Pre. Under the terms of the merger agreement, Palm stockholders will receive $5.70 in cash for each share of Palm common stock that they hold at the closing of the merger. The merger consideration takes into account the updated guidance and other financial information being released by Palm this afternoon. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of domestic and foreign regulatory approvals and the approval of Palm’s stockholders. The transaction is expected to close during HP’s third fiscal quarter ending July 31, 2010.

Palm’s current chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein, is expected to remain with the company.

This is the thing I have been talking about all these days, Palm was not pushing hard on creating a big hype for Palm Pre before its release. Anyways some hints do point that Palm wanted it to be a low key affair of some sorts and all because of that we had a following situation :

Well as mentioned by others, Apple marketing hype machine is much better than Palm. Plus iPhone was a revolutionary device which changed the face of mobile industry forever.And Apple is having a excellent line of highly successful other products also unlike Palm which was/is currently struggling with their old product lineup. But with Palm Pre release I hope the things will change.

Palm Pre Touchstone Charger Selling Already?

Apparently a Sprint Store in US sold the Touchstone Charger to a customer and created quite a buzz in Palm pre world.

With 2 days remaining for the official release, this type of goof ups may raise thoughts that people can get Palm Pre before the official release like some one got a Touch Stone charger .

One more thing which was noticed that the store actually sold the charger for $50 rather then rumored official price of $70. So the guy buying it got it early plus with a discount, now he just have to buy a Palm Pre and all go to go . Also I didn’t get what for the plastic cover is included with the charger, by looking , it gives a impression of back cover of Palm Pre, which may mean that you have to change the Pre back cover when using touchstone charger or something. Not much idea just speculating .

Palm Pre Camera Doesn’t Record Video

I was just reading a Palm Pre review from Walt Mossberg, where he mentioned that Palm Pre camera doesn’t record a video . That’s really unfortunate, with 3mpx camera with flash and not video recording, I am really not sure why Palm did this or it can be resolved by using a software update just like in iPhone.

I will be posting details about the full review pretty soon, so stay tuned.

Yes i got proofs which will let you know that Palm Pre craze is indeed growing.

First in the list a Palm Pre winner from Precentral.net who got a Palm Pre tattoo on his hand .

Second is the guy who is camping out for Palm Pre launch on June 6th, which surely proves his madness for Palm Pre as the launch is good 3 days away. hats off to him .
