Web OS 2.0 Is Coming Later This Year

Jon Rubinstein from Palm(HP) mentioned in the interview with Fortune that “WebOS 2.0 is on track for release later this year”. As we have been hearing rumours about HP bringing some webOS based tablets into market to compete with iPad, webOS 2.0 release seem to be a perfect fit for that. But we still have to wait for any details on what webOS 2.0 will look like. Will update as soon as it comes out.

After the acquisition by HP, Palm came up with their first big announcement. Palm is informing its developers that a major webOS update is coming soon and they should be ready to test their Apps with the new OS. Pretty welcome news after months of not so “happening” months over webOs. Yes we can expect decent amount of changes and upgrades . Check out the mail being sent to developers below.

webOS™ Update Coming Soon – Prepare to Test Your Apps

The next version of webOS is coming soon.

You will receive an email alert in early May announcing the availability of an SDK release candidate. Please be prepared to begin testing your apps right away.

Because the scope of the changes in this update is limited, we won’t be going through a full SDK beta cycle:

* You will have approximately one week to report show-stopper bugs in webOS before it is released to carriers.
* Once the build has been released to carriers, you will have another 2-3 weeks to address app-level bugs before the update lands on consumer devices.

It is especially important to test PDK apps against this release candidate. Developers of non-PDK apps should also test their apps to catch any unanticipated issues.

Soon after the release of Palm Pre, Palm released a software update for its web0S firmware. The updates is about 67 mb and can be downloaded on Sprint EVDO Rev.A network.

The firmware included a new clock app and few addition features. Below is the complete list of additions :

New applications
Clock

Use your phone as an alarm clock.
Create and save multiple alarms.
Customize sounds for individual alarms.
View a full-screen time display.
Switch the time display between analog and digital.

Feature changes to existing applications

Camera

Increased speed of return to capture mode when taking successive photos.

Other

Numerous bug fixes for Email, Calendar, and other applications.

Palm Pre To Have iTunes Support

This post is part of the series of posts related to the webOS annoucement by Palm.

This news must be shocker for all, Palm Pre will having iTunes support which means users will be able to to transfer DRM-free music, photos and videos to your Palm Pre from iTunes.

Palm Pre users will just have to connect their phone with MAC/PC and select the “media sync” option in phone itself which will be bring up iTunes and from there you can transfer the media content.
