Palm Pre Shortage Rumors Even Before Release : Fake Or Reality

I have been trying myself to avoid getting into the rumors related to “Palm Pre shortage” when it releases but couldn’t hold it further. This whole thing is blown out of proportion and who started this all is not known.

It can be Palm who is expecting a enormous response from buyers and just want to warn in advance that many Palm Pre hopefuls may have to return empty handed or
Palm is not so much confident about the device and kept the first phase production units to a low level, just to see the initial response and then act accordingly.

Honestly i don’t know how these big corporations work and release their products but Palm seriously must be having some good plans under the sleeve otherwise whatever is happening now, can’t be considered normal. What was the need of releasing Palm Pre just before the WWDC where its almost certain that a new improved iPhone will be launched, there was enough time after the iPhone 3G release and Palm could have take a huge advantage of the situation to make Palm Pre a success.

As i go through various mobile communities, almost 50-60% will wait for the new gen iPhone release before buying a Palm Pre. Although there is no doubt that Pre will still score big but seriously, it could have been a different story if Pre was released 2-3 months back.

And then there are these Palm Pre shortage rumors, plus it also been shared across that each Best Buy in US(around 4200 or so) will be having only 4 Palm Pre to sell. Really weird!!! , I was also going through the Sprint official response on the whole shortage drama, they never came clean on that, here is their response :

At Sprint, we’re excited by the response to the Palm Pre, but what’s been posted is pure speculation. Because of the Pre’s popularity, it’s likely that initially we won’t be able to keep up with the demand for the device. If that happens, we will work diligently to ensure that everyone who wants a Pre can get one as soon as possible.

I clearly remember the buzz created by iPhone and how people camped outside Apple stores to get it before anyone else. But there was no shortages as far as I know, everyone was able to get one for themselves. Palm Pre is a great device and I love it but still I am pretty certain that it will not be able to match the success which iPhone has achieved and the frenzy it created during its first launch. So, how can Sprint + Palm be coming up with such responses that there “its likely” that they won’t be able to meet the demand. And top of that its only being launched in US for the initial roll out and not a worldwide release.

So, that’s it guys and gals, about my rant on the whole shortage drama, and honestly i feel its Palm responsibility to come out and assure its users that we have enough units, just don’t loose hope :-) .

I’ve had my Pre because shortly right after release and am glad to discover (by way of this forum) that I can now set a ring tone on incoming text messages and can lookup as a result of e-mails and such. Now is there any hope for an upcoming launch by which I can search my calendar? Would make my occupation very much less difficult, finding dates of last appointments. No other complaints, except that yesterday I was in and out of Sprint support (not unusual). I believe I used to be roaming, and looked at my calendar. Everything in the calendar was one particular hour earlier than what I had input. The clock was one particular hour early as well. I was afraid to death–then, as soon as we got back into Sprint support again, anything was normalized. Has this happened to anyone else?? Hunting forward to answers, but please remember, I’m no techie and speak English in lieu of technospeak.
